What Is the UK Graduate Visa?

The Graduate Visa (PSW Visa UK) allows international students to stay in the UK after completing their studies. It’s perfect for those who want to gain work experience or explore career opportunities in the UK.

Major Update: New Rules Effective from 1 January 2027

From 1 January 2027, the Graduate Visa will allow:

✅ 18 months stay for most graduates.

✅ 3 years for PhD or doctoral graduates.

If you apply on or before 31 December 2026, you’ll still receive the 2-year post-study work period under the current rule.

Application Fee: £880

Healthcare Surcharge: £1,035 per year

Eligibility Criteria

You can apply for PSW visa if:

◉ You’ve completed an eligible UK degree (Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD).

◉ Your university has informed the Home Office of your course completion.

What You Can Do

◉ Work full-time or part-time in any field.

◉ Be self-employed.

◉ Travel freely in and out of the UK.

◉ Live with your dependents (if eligible).

What You Cannot Do

◉ Claim public funds or benefits.

◉ Work as a professional sportsperson.

When and How to Apply

You must apply after your university confirms course completion and before your Student visa expires.

What Happens After the Graduate Visa Ends?

The Graduate Visa cannot be extended, but you can switch to a Skilled Worker Visa to continue working long-term in the UK.
